How to Make the Best of Your Trip to a Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental with No Snow

You've probably spent several weeks to months planning your winter ski vacation and are excited to get to your Lake Tahoe vacation rental. You've tried to pick the ideal time when the weather should be cold, but not too cold, and the snow should be plentiful. Sometimes things don't work out as planned. If you find yourself heading to your favorite ski resort with no snow in sight, don't be discouraged. With a little creativity, you can find other things to make your vacation a successful one. Here are a few ideas to help you change gears:

Remember the Glass is Half Full

Like all things in life, the right attitude can make a big difference when things don't go as planned. If you can focus on the positive things that do go right instead of all the things that will inevitably go wrong, you'll have a more positive vacation experience. Make an effort to brush off annoying things like forgotten items, late flights and poor weather. Instead, be thankful for good health, the means to take time away from work, and having the special time with friends or family. A positive attitude will result in a happier vacation regardless of what you're doing.

Spend Time Learning about the Town

Every city, big or small, has interesting things to do and see. Stop by the visitors' center and grab some promotional brochures about the local sites. Find the tiny, specialized stores to explore. Check out the events guide to see if there are performances happening while you're in town. Even a local high school play or a church concert may provide for an evening of entertainment.

Please Your Palate with Local Cuisine

Talk with the folks who live and work in the ski town and get recommendations for the best spots to dine. Turn meal time into a vacation event for the day instead of a necessity to do as quickly as possible so you can get to the next activity. Every city has specialty restaurants that serve everything from delicious, five course meals to the best homemade ice cream in town.

Sleep In

Although many people hope to relax on vacation, the reality is that it can be tempting to try to pack as many activities into the day as possible. Combine that frenzy with all the stresses of packing and traveling and you can end up feeling like you need a vacation after your vacation. If the snow is scarce, take it as a cue to sleep in at your Lake Tahoe vacation rental and relax. Watch some movies in your pajamas all day. Read a book and take the day at a nice, slow pace.

Spend Quality Time with Friend and Family

If you're traveling with friends or family, don't forget to actually take the time to deepen those relationships while you're together. In today's fast-paced, super-connected world, we often find ourselves more isolated than ever. Have an interesting conversation, take a hike around a local park, or spend time cooking a new meal together. Find little things that help you "be" with each other instead of just "doing" things together.
